Faith is 9 years old. She walks nearly 3 kilometers every morning from her home in Kware, Ongata Rongai, to attend school at the TAFI Autism Foundation. Her face is bright, her spirit eager but there are days when Faith arrives on an empty stomach.
For many children like Faith, school isn’t just a place of learning. It’s the only place where they are guaranteed a warm, nutritious meal. Without it, focus fades, meltdowns increase, and therapy becomes less effective.
Faith is autistic. Routine matters. Stability matters. And hunger disrupts everything.
TAFI has committed to giving each child one full meal every day a simple plate of rice, vegetables, or beansābut even that has become a challenge due to rising food costs and limited resources.
Unlike typical classrooms, children with autism often require more energy to remain regulated throughout their learning and therapy sessions. A consistent meal not only fuels their bodies, it calms their anxiety, improves classroom behavior, and helps them absorb skills taught during the day.
Our teachers and caregivers see it firsthand: on days when food is unavailable, learning is delayed. Progress slows. Children struggle to concentrate. But when meals are provided, children like Faith light upāalert, ready, and happy to learn.
It costs just KES 150 (about $1) to feed one child per day.
Every donation counts, no matter how small. With your help, we can ensure that no child at TAFI goes hungry during the school day.
Help us keep Faith in class not distracted by hunger, but thriving through learning.
