Autism is a deeply misunderstood and underdiagnosed condition across Kenya and much of Africa. Limited public awareness, social stigma, and inadequate policy focus have prevented thousands of children with autism spectrum disorders from accessing essential services that could dramatically improve their quality of life. Many families struggle with isolation, discrimination, and a lack of accurate information about autism, which only deepens the challenges faced by their children.
At The Autism Foundation International (T.A.F.I), we are committed to breaking these barriers through targeted autism support in Kenya. Our goal is to raise autism awareness and provide compassionate, accessible, and family-centered care that supports children with autism and their parents. We believe every child deserves a fair chance to thrive, regardless of their background or diagnosis.
In many communities, parents of autistic children face a heavy burden — including single parenting, separation or divorce, lack of adequate childcare options, and severe financial constraints. These hardships often prevent children from receiving even the most basic therapies, educational opportunities, and social interactions needed for their development. Without proper intervention, children with autism may miss vital milestones, and their families may feel overwhelmed and hopeless.
T.A.F.I has stepped in as a pioneer safe space for children with disabilities, focusing specifically on autism support in Kajiado and Nairobi Counties. We provide foundational care and services to children from disadvantaged backgrounds who would otherwise be left behind. From therapeutic interventions to inclusive education and recreational programs, T.A.F.I’s holistic approach addresses the complex needs of autistic children and empowers their families to become confident advocates for their loved ones.
In addition to its core autism programs, T.A.F.I is also dedicated to broader community health initiatives. We actively promote the reduction of child and infant mortality, improvement of maternal health, reproductive health education, and awareness on preventable diseases including breast cancer, cervical cancer, diabetes, tuberculosis, and malaria. By offering health workshops and screening campaigns, we equip community members with knowledge and tools to improve their well-being.
Our team conducts extensive outreach in local schools and public forums to raise awareness about autism in Kenya, while also educating the public about malaria prevention, HIV prevention, and family planning. These integrated efforts ensure that the most vulnerable members of the community, including children with disabilities, receive comprehensive care and support.
Through your autism donations, you can help us expand these vital services to reach even more children and families. Every contribution makes a difference, whether it supports therapy for an autistic child, funds educational workshops, or provides crucial health screenings to underserved communities. With your support, we can break down stigma, improve early detection, and offer hope and practical resources to families who need them most.
At T.A.F.I, we know that with compassionate support, children with autism can achieve incredible milestones. Together, we can build an inclusive, healthy, and informed society where all children — no matter their abilities — are valued and empowered to live fulfilling lives. Join us in this mission to transform health outcomes and provide brighter futures for autistic children and their families in Kenya and beyond.
