String Art Vocational Training

The String Art Project was a hands-on vocational event hosted by The Autism Foundation International (TAFI) aimed at empowering children on the autism spectrum through creative expression and skill development.

Held at TAFI’s vocational training center, the session introduced children to string art—a therapeutic craft where strings are carefully wound around nails on wooden boards to create intricate patterns, including photo frames, wall décor, and flower vases.

Why String Art?

String art is more than just an art form. For autistic learners, it offers:

  • Sensory engagement through texture and color

  • Fine motor skill development

  • Structured expression in a calming, guided format

  • Boosted self-esteem through visible, beautiful outcomes

  • Opportunity for vocational empowerment

These therapeutic and creative outcomes align with TAFI’s mission of providing inclusive, skill-based learning for neurodiverse children.

What Happened at the Event

  • Children were introduced to basic string art techniques by a professional art therapist.

  • Participants created personalized pieces, including photo frames and geometric wall hangings.

  • Sessions encouraged teamwork, communication, and independent decision-making.

  • Parents and caregivers witnessed the outcomes in a small showcase, building community support.
