Every morning at 6:00 AM, Emmanuel begins a long and tiring journey from his home to TAFI School in Rongai. For most children, the walk to school might be routine. But for Emmanuel, a 9-year-old boy on the autism spectrum, this walk is not only physically exhausting—it is emotionally challenging.
Emmanuel walks barefoot. His family, like many others in the underserved areas of Kajiado County, cannot afford a simple pair of school shoes. Every step he takes is on rough ground—exposed to stones, heat, and dust. Yet, Emmanuel never complains. Because at the end of that long walk is a place where he is understood, supported, and valued—TAFI School.
For neurodiverse children like Emmanuel, consistency and comfort are critical. The trauma of walking barefoot affects not just his feet but also his concentration in class. When Emmanuel arrives at school, he is often tired and distracted—not because he doesn’t want to learn, but because he’s already endured too much just to get there.
A pair of proper school shoes can restore his dignity, improve his daily attendance, and allow him to focus on what truly matters—his education, growth, and therapy.
For just Ksh 1,200 (Approx. $10), you can gift Emmanuel and other children like him a sturdy pair of school shoes. With 100 children currently enrolled at TAFI, our goal this term is to raise Ksh 120,000 ($950) to ensure every child walks with pride.
This is more than footwear—it’s a step toward inclusion, safety, and dignity.
