Through months of consistent occupational therapy, aided by educational videos, assistive devices, and sensory room exercises, she began to make strides. She smiled. She engaged. But just as her journey toward progress began to shine, the power went out and kept going out.
Kenya’s unpredictable electricity outages meant therapy tools powered by electricity were unusable for days. Janet would stare at a black screen during her digital learning sessions. Sensory rooms became silent. Fans stopped turning in the heat. Her anxiety returned. And progress slowed to a crawl.
